jfc I really, REALLY want to ship this, but Maya is making it nearly impossible. On balance I think it’s fair for her to be upset with Emily for taking Toby to homecoming. Even though it was Hanna, not Emily, who told her that Emily wanted to see her there, and even though Emily didn’t enter a relationship with Toby just by going to a dance with him, Maya has no obligation to wait patiently while Emily does things with other people that could be interpreted as romantic. But nor does Emily have any obligation not to “lose sleep” over the prospect of being outed, and it is low to attack her for this fear. Besides, Emily doesn’t start this conversation acting anxious like she was in 1x04. Look, she’s even (timidly) smiling!As with many things that have happened in the first 7 episodes, I can only hope that the show will eventually condemn Maya’s behavior. Fingers crossed.
