I have slept well in my bed and my dog sleeps on the floor under my bed, getting up and stretching as she hears me wake. It’s slightly chilly in my small country house and the floors are cold. I make strong coffee and drink it from a chipped mug as I read the morning paper. We take a walk in the dewy yard, the dog and I. I can hear the sea and the birds have just begun to sing. I feed the animals, chickens and sheep and rabbits. Then I go to see the fishnets I have set out on the previous day. I return home with fish and red cheeks and nose. Dog and I harvest some fresh spring onions from the garden, along with new potatoes. We eat these and fresh fish for lunch. I work for a few hours, painting, drawing and writing. I never have much money but always enough to support me. Before dinner I walk with the dog, through green hazel groves and meadows. Once we spot a pair of roe deer, and the dog gives chase lazily, giving up after a few minutes. We return home for dinner. As the sun begins to set, I tend to the animals, see that they are happy and healthy. Back in the house, finish some commissions and projects as the evening turns into a night. I go to sleep happy and pleasantly tired. My body is healthy, all my rough edges have been sanded away. I am content to wake up again, tomorrow. 12. dog person or cat person?I suppose I am a dog person. We always had dogs as I grew up and only had our first cat as mom moved together with her spouse.
