The Gast 13 Machine Gun,A machine gun made in Germany during the First World War, the Gast gun was a double barreled machine that fired from large drum magazines or top mounted gravity magazines. It fired a 8mm cartridge and achieved a rate of fire of 1,600 rounds per minute. The most unique aspect of the Gast gun was that the two machine guns that made up the weapon were rigged together to operate as one complete mechanism. Thus the recoil from one gun would charge and operated the action of the other. An ingenious design, the same mechanism is still in use today with the Russian Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-23L aircraft cannon. During World War I most Gast guns would have been mounted on aircraft for use by observers and gunners. -- source link
