Another addition to a blossoming network of direct action and mutual aid initiatives in Bham is this great grassroots harm reduction programHarm reduction is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use, which incorporates safer use, managed use, abstinence, meeting people who use drugs “where they’re at,” and addressing conditions of use along with the use itself. Harm reduction is also a movement for social justice built on a belief in, and respect for, the rights of people who use drugs. Watch this video to learn moreEven though the state of Alabama criminalizes the distribution of virtually all safe use supplies, including lifesaving tools such as fentanyl test strips, MCHR is doing what it can to ensure safety for people who use drugs. This Sunday (09/20) will be their first pop-up distro at Kelly Ingram Park, where they will be handing out naloxone and narcan to treat opioid overdose, safe sex supplies like condoms and lube, tampons, masks, gloves, bandaids, and educational materials about safe use and harm reductionScan the QR code in the picture above to contribute to MCHR’s venmo and support this awesome project! -- source link
