theghostparty:A Marvel Fairytale (AU): The Steadfast Tin Soldier (Hans Christian Andersen)One soldier stands on a single leg, having been the last one cast from an old tin spoon. Nearby, he spies a paper ballerina with a spangle on her sash. She too is standing on one leg, dancing, and the soldier falls in love.[…] The tin soldier stood there dressed in flames. He felt a terrible heat, but whether it came from the flames or from his love he didn’t know. He’d lost his splendid colors, maybe from his hard journey, maybe from grief, nobody can say.He looked at the maiden, and she looked at him, and he felt himself melting. But still he stood steadfast, with his musket held trim on his shoulder.A door was suddenly opened, the draught caught the little dancer and she fluttered like a sylph, straight into the fire, to the soldier, blazed up and was gone!By this time the soldier was reduced to a mere lump, and when the maid took away the ashes next morning she found him, in the shape of a small tin heart. But of the pretty dancer nothing was left except her spangle, and it was burned as black as a coal. -- source link
