I’ve been posting a lot of memes to my Story (because I got thrown in Facebook jail for calling someone an “uncooked lasagna noodle” and an “ugly anteater”….) but this one I’m gonna post more permanently and prominently.Don’t donate to the Salvation Army. They’re a horrible organization that does very little with your money, and what they DO do with it is specifically anti-LGBT. They, worldwide, fund anti-LGBT parties, push anti-LGBT rhetoric, and often refuse to serve LGBT people… And homeless youth are FAR, FAR more likely to be LGBT. Depending on the area, up to EVERY OTHER homeless youth might be queer. So you think you’re donating towards a homeless shelter, but… You’re donating towards a homeless shelter that might only serve half the people you think they will, because of who they are.If you want a specific example, go look up the trans woman they let freeze to death on their doorstep instead of letting her into the women’s shelter – they argue that it wasn’t their fault because they would have allowed her in the men’s shelter, but I don’t think it’s particularly difficult to understand why that wasn’t a real option for her.Fuck the Salvation Army, and fuck the fact that I have to hear their annoying bells in all public places during the Christmas season, reminding me that people who hate me are very much still alive and thriving, and well-meaning people will donate to them without realizing what they’re helping fund.An argument about this is what finally made me stop speaking to my homophobic mother, btw; she is a stalwart supporter of SA and doesn’t see what’s wrong with that.Fuck the Salvation Army.https://www.instagram.com/p/CIRLQCYHX5y/?igshid=t2xieavgcamb -- source link
