mikvahbound:laoih:mikvahbound:zaataronpita:mikvahbound:svetlana-del-rey:talonsandwings:booksandwildthings:missclearwater:This scene will forever give me shiversTHE most underrated scene in the entire movie. It was perfect. And do you know how often I see gif sets of it? This is the second one I’ve seen since the movie came out (It’s been over 5 months, now).So let’s just pause for a moment from reblogging gifs of Tony’s sass, Loki’s sex appeal, or Bruce’s fluffiness and just appreciate this nameless, old, German guy and how, even though he knew he would probably die, he stood up to a tyrant to prove that the human race wouldn’t give up their freedom so easily.emily why the fuck you think it necessary to give me these feelslol noooo not this scene againthe old guy is more likely than not a former Nazi/someone who at least tacitly supported the Reich tbhlol this scene was so gross. it was such a pandering to the “omg but not all germans are nazis” crowd.if you were that age and german, then yeah, you probably were a nazi. and the fact that marvel felt like they had to include that was so, so gross. There were Germans who were not Nazis. There were Righteous Among Nations (those who risked their lives and their family’s lives to save Jews and there were those who were too afraid to do anything. This man might have been a hero. He may have been a German who went along and and did nothing to stop the horrors of the Holocaust and felt guilty about it for the rest of his life. Who knows. Either way, there were always men like Loki and this man would recognize it. Maybe sickened by what his country did in the past he is finally brave enough to take a stand now.maybe he was, maybe he wasn’t, but the odds are not in his favour. And why is that?because of his age and of his nationality??? the vast majority of germans of his age were nazis or at least silent bystanders. now, i too, upon first viewing this scene was in the “he was disgusted by the nazis, so now he speaks out”, but then i watched the avengers two more times and it just became gross to me. and i’m not exactly going to lose anything by saying this, i too am a product of northern european (though scandinavian, not german) society and we have many of the same issues today and i know what it looks like. The odds were definitely not in his favor. He wasmost likelysilent. Hemost likelydid nothing. Just as everyone around him knelt down right away, afraid for their lives. But he stood up. And there are those who will stand up. As a Jew, I found it inspiring. And even if he didn’t stand up then, he learned something, because he’s standing up now. -- source link
