The last full day we had in Osaka, we really just bummed around. We did go to Osaka castle on that day, for those following along on a calendar… But, we got a late start and had a late breakfast at a French pastry shop in the subway station promenade near Amerika-mura and Shinsaibashi station. It’s easy to pick which ones my wife wanted and which I wanted. She opted for the egg, corn, broccoli, and hot dog pizza; while I went for the split hot dog croissant thingie. We split the rest. The black roll shaped thing was interesting. I couldn’t identify the flavor of the bread, but it was full of jam and macadamia nuts, so it went over well for the both of us. The regular looking croissant had what I assumed was a dulce de leche glaze (Japan usually will call this “milk” flavor and often gets mis-associated up with vanilla.). The rest of it was cheezy breads with vegetable or savory breads. I cannot over emphasize this enough. Japan loves pastries. I would even go so far to say that Korea does too, indicative of the two giant French pastry shops that are nearby my local Korean grocer. You can survive on this instead of the calorie/sugar dense stuff they sell at the nearby conbini, but they usually serve overpriced and mediocre coffees. Not to dissuade you from trying a Choco-Cro, but after you do that, go seek out one of the bazillion pastry shops in the subway systems around Japan. -- source link
