“He was 10 feet in front of me, so close that I could actually hear the guitar and his vocals without the PA, which was amazing. Such a great crowd, too. Not a single song callout, so quiet and respectful… Ryan’s voice was phenomenal. Before English Girls (the part where I grabbed my girlfriends knee and nearly shit myself) he mentioned something about writing a lot of these songs when he was "insane” and said something about changing the words, but I don’t actually think he did. Either way, between that and Cannonball Days…… When he came out for the encore – leaving to a standing ovation – he spread out a few sheets of paper on his guitar case and went into some AMAZING new songs. God, I LOVED hearing those new songs. He saw someone with a camera during one of them and said “do you see me looking at you? put it down. this is between me and the people here.” … and proceeded to play at least ½ of the new album. He apparently loves Sweden, said he would get shit for it, but that it was his favorite country in the world in which to play. That he would live there if he could. I concur. I’d grab an apartment in Malmo and a bike and be merrily merrily merrily all the way. The show ended with literally a 3-5 minute standing ovation, with Ryan kneeling down and tapping the stage with his knuckles. Unreal night. Oh, and I love the Buck, which he said was used to record all of the albums, and he wanted to bring it out “just this once” for everyone to see.
