minutemanworld:Cartridge box with whisk, pick and accouterments. At the Museum of the American Revolution. Most American soldiers carried their ammunition in cartridge boxes worn over the shoulder or around the waist. These leather pouches contained drilled wooden blocks to hold individual cartridges - round paper tubes containing gunpowder, lead bullets, and often (as here), small buckshot that improved a soldier’s chances of hitting his target. This example from the era of the American Revolution, includes a whisk and pick used to clean a flintlock musket’s firing mechanism when it was fouled by burned gunpowder. The individual cartridges, components, and bullet mold, are also from the era of the American War of Independence. -- source link
