Meet my new hamsters! We wanted to name them old lady names. The dark brown spotted one is Beatrice. The golden one is Eleanor. We originally had them in one cage because they were litter mates (sisters) and the lady at PetCo said since they were already in one cage at the store and were brought up together that they would be fine. But two days in and Beatrice was hurting Eleanor. Biting her and drawing blood. It was bad. Eleanor was hiding on the top level of the cage and would cower when Beatrice was anywhere near her. She wouldn’t drink and would barely eat. So I knew I couldn’t let that go on, I had Aaron go to the store really fast and get another cage because I felt like if I waited one more day she would hurt her bad enough that she would die.She was soooo skittish and scared and as soon as we put Eleanor in her own cage she opened up so much and has become so sweet and loving. We love them both and it was definitely hard not to be mad at Beatrice because apparently she was just acting out her natural instincts but it’s hard to remember that when you’re watching one be mean to the other. So yes now we have two separate cages and two of everything and they can’t be together apparently but that’s fine because we make time for both of them. Taking them out of their cages one at a time for play time and time in the ball to roll around the house, and time for pets and cuddles. They’re both thriving now! We have been so happy since getting them, having a little baby to take care of. It’s been so fun and we just adore them. He knew I would be obsessed with them and not “get bored” like some people. I was reading and reading and watching videos and recommendations as if they were a human baby, what to do and what not to do. What food is best and what treats they like. What toys are bad and what cages are bad. It’s crazy!Anyway, I’ll be posting pics of them from now on, hope you don’t mind. Here are some pictures of them snoozing and playing. :) -- source link
