rotictalk: DOUBLE TAKEAlbum cover review for Prince Royce’s Double Vision3.5 stars (out of 4)I was on the subway the other week, heading home from a very draining day at work. By the time I reach the halfway point to my apartment, I am usually deep in visual and mental fog, completely zoning out until my stop comes along. But one particular design woke me up with a jolt like a kid jumping out of bed on Christmas morning. That particular present was a subway advertisement for Prince Royce’s new album Double Vision. In all honesty, I’d never heard of Prince Royce before that subway ride. I think my sheer amazement began with the fact that a record label actually took out an outdoor advertisement for a new album for someone who was not Madonna or One Direction! My joy simply continued when the design for that album was not only visually stimulating, but it made me want to hear the music immediately. With a title like “Double Vision”, the album cover design could have easily strayed into the realm of overdone, double exposure-like 3D effects that we have seen countless times. However, this design nicely represents a clean, fresh and modern sound that somewhat reveals someone shedding an old skin and emerging on a new path, how appropriate for this Prince Royce album, his first to be recorded primarily in English. With my first experience of Double Vision being so rewarding, it gave me hope that an album cover could still stop me in my tracks and make me so intrigued that I want to instantly purchase the product (ahhh the power of the album cover!). Unfortunately, I could not find the art director for this album cover (the liner notes are unavailable, much to my disappointment). But whomever you are, a huge thank you goes out to you, the record label and to Prince Royce. Cheers to Mr. Cruz! I’ve seen this album cover EVERYWHERE! Great review Rotic Talk!
