shivoa: How transphobic are the feminists who profit from pushing policies to criminalise and harm sex workers in the UK? They can’t even write a social media bio list of hashtags without explicitly labelling their transphobic views. It’s like, are you even trying to do anything but solidify the ranks of the uninformed and eager bigots? Who with any interest in social justice or actual, intersectional feminism would eagerly jump into this camp? When you can’t help but proudly boast about your transmisogyny, you’re not exactly building towards any sort of anti-misogynistic activism. So you probably heard about the anti-trans bigots who disrupted London Pride this year.Around 10 people held up Pride in London, London’s annual pride parade, by standing on the giant rainbow flag that’s traditionally carried at the beginning of the march — before organizers gave in and allowed them to lead the march themselves. Waving signs saying things like “Transactivists Erase Lesbians,” the protesters shouted slogans targeting trans women and highlighting the hashtag “#GetTheLOut of Pride” as they led the parade down its route to Trafalgar Square.Guess which orgs were behind it:Although participants seem to have barely broken double digits, four groups were involved in the protest: Critical Sisters, Object, MayDay4Women, and the Lesbian Rights Alliance. Three of these groups appear to have an overriding interest with trans people (and especially trans women), with only Object better known for its protests against ‘Lad’s Mags’ and Page 3. Although Object is one of the best connected feminist groups in the UK, its activity appears to have slowed of late. Object had previously been relatively successful in attracting younger women to its old school feminist stance, with its youth wing UK Feminista. […] That Object was unable to draw more than ten women to this stunt does not speak well of the once prominent group’s future. -- source link
