socialistexan:bando–grand-scamyon:No but for real.Because it’s still a federal crime. Even possessing any amount of pot is a federal misdemeanor punishable by 1 year in federal jail and a $1000 fine. Selling is a federal felony with anywhere from 5 years to life and $250,000-$1,000,000 fines.Like, assume Colorado or Washington or (especially) California tries to release people on drug offenses, the Federal Government’s Justice Department headed by Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, a giant racist who has said he liked the Klan until he found out they smoked weed, still has those people in the system and can then go after them and put them in federal prison because pot is still listed as a schedule 1 drug, up there with meth and heroin (all of which should be decriminalized, imo, but that’s a different point). The reason pot is illegal in the first place is racism and greed, and the reason it stayed illegal is because it is a way to basically re-enslave young black men, but an individual state acting unilaterally to free anyone on a marijuana offense will be overruled by the Justice Department, especially with the current administration in Washington. Even the open sale right now is on the line, all those people could go to federal prison at any second should Trump decide it. Want to free people unjustly kept in prison over pot? Legalize it at federal level. -- source link
