first-in-firearms:Ok.  Ten points go to the person who can name this rifle.The real reward is the satisfaction of knowing you were right ;) I’ve come across this before and was planning to post this at some point.  I’m probably too late and someone has probably already answered.  This is and 03 Springfield belonging to John Hessian, a sport shooter and Olympic athlete.  When the Brits got their butts kicked at Dunkirk they were forced to leave most of their gear behind and barely made it back to England with their hides intact.  Hessian lent the rifle to the British military and after WWII it was then returned.  The brass plates say something like, “please return after use."  Its now in the National Firearms Museum. -- source link
