onlymonica: Teddy Talk Unless you live in a cave, you’re probably familiar with the popular ‘TED talks’ where interesting people opine on interesting topics. And, unless you’re really stuck in your cave, you’re probably familiar with the lingerie garment, ‘the Teddy,’ (worn above by yours truly). There’s not much to a Teddy – in fact, the less there is, the more you want one. This one’s pretty skimpy. But while I’m lounging around in one of the 30 or so Teddies in my collection (on my pink Polar Bear rug no less), I started to wonder ‘who is this garment named after’??? Well, the internet is of little help. A few articles trace the historical roots to the 1920s, when this type of lingerie was called an ‘envelope chemise’, or – worse yet - - ‘camiknickers’ The former sounds like postal porn, the latter sounds like some type of venereal disease. No one seems to know how the term ‘Teddy’ came into fashion. One guy hypothesized that Teddy Roosevelt was involved, either because he wore one, or shot someone wearing one, or just shot the garment itself. None of these explanations holds water with me, so Teddy gets to stay on Mount Rushmore. But I do wonder how the hell this incredibly sexy item of clothing that has no logical purpose but to help you get laid ever acquired its name. So please, chime in with any insights you might have. -- source link
