Name: Ashwa Faheem (Avva)Age:23Brief history of career: My earliest professional work experience was, during my diploma studies as a photojournalist in Borneo for the Daily Express. I documented stories all over the city from social issues to explorations in virgin forests with scientists. I travelled to different villages all over West and East Malaysia to photograph their way of unique life. After my academic life in Malaysia, I worked at Raajje TV, a local TV news channel in the Maldives, as a camerawoman and videographer. I also worked as a Photojournalist for their website documenting every even, both political and social that was unfolding in the Maldives between 2012 and 2015. I was the only female photojournalist working in the country at the time.Accomplishments:I finished my Diploma being among the top 5 at the university for my final project in Conceptual Photography. I became the first female camerawoman in Maldives when I started working for RaajjeTV in 2012. I travelled to more than 45 islands across the Maldivian archipelago with the first democratically elected president of the Maldives, as a camerawoman and a photographer documenting his visits.Between 2012 and 2014, my work was recognised by many independent and government bodies and as a result I got sponsored opportunity to travel to many countries including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore and Palau as a camerawoman to document various events and projects in these countries. During this duration I got to photograph 4 different presidents including the Chinese premier in different occasions. I worked on a photographic project documenting the living spaces of people in Male’ city which reached an audience of more than 30,000 people, including policymakers and to this day I hope that those images would help make their lives better. The photo project lead me to speak in different TV channels in the Maldives regarding the issues of poor living standards in the city. I’ve been selected as a finalist for the “Photography Vibes” contest and had my work published in the “Photography Vibes” book of July 1,2010. I was honoured to have been a featured photographer in the project ‘Pictalk’ that was organised by the Democracy House of Maldives in 2014.Motivational quote for women: “Never limit yourself because of other’s limitedimagination.
