For General Danvers Week - Day 7: Mythology. In Alex’s world, the four mysterious crystals that float in the sky with strange women and a child inside them, have been around for centuries. There have been religions sprung up around the four of them: the Warrior, the Merciful, the Joyful and the Thinker. Later, they became scientists’ proof that there existed science out there that humans had yet to comprehend.Alex’s father spent his life’s work on uncovering the mystery of the crystals, and when he died, Alex took over from him, determined to prove his detractors wrong. She succeeds in freeing the strange women from the crystals, only to find that they are aliens from a dying planet, who had been on their way to find aid to save Krypton, but had been attacked by enemies and put in a time stasis on a primitive planet, before they could complete their mission. Now Alex and her team of researchers have three demanding alien women and a kid to look after, the leader of whom is really, really, taken with Alex. Also, after I came up with this cracky idea - probably subliminally inspired by my recent SU and ATLA rewatch - I started discussing the idea with @foxx-queen, and we came up with a whole bunch of more plot and backstory to this, so more sketches and details on that behind the cut :)A little more detail on the crystals. They’re light green in color because there’s a mild Kryptonite in them. Astra was caught in the middle of fighting the attackers off with her heat vision, so her crystal reflects the light inside itself in a loop. Alex thinks hers is the prettiest crystal. Astra is the Warrior, in the main religion sprung up around the crystals. Other people also think of her as the spirit of determination, resilience and bravery. Sometimes when she’s working late at night, Alex stares at Astra’s crystal, captivated by its beauty. Alura is the - somewhat ironically named, as she’s all about justice - Merciful, because of the tears running down her face. Kara is the Joyful, caught unawares during the attack. She keeps stealing Alex’s lab snacks after she gets released from her crystal, and always makes Alex take her on piggyback rides around the lab.Lara (nee Lor-Van, Superman’s mom) is the Thinker, so named because her eyes are closed and she has a slight smile on her face. Alex and Lillian (foxx-queen’s AU Lillian, not the Supergirl one) are the ones leading the research team, but they’re watched over by Major Lucy Lane on behalf of her father’s orders, because the crystals are valuable national property. Lucy is just there to do her job; she doesn’t expect to get swept up in the mystery of the crystals, and eventually in helping the Kryptonians save their planet. All of the team, including the researchers, have combat training, because the area with the crystals is often under siege by other people looking to have them. In another AU, we considered making the crystals hand-size and movable. In that AU, Lillian likes talking to Lara’s crystal at times, both about random things, but also about her anxieties, and her abusive homelife, never realizing that the person inside can hear snatches of what she says. She finds it easy to confide because Lara has her eyes closed, but also because there’s a slight smile on her face, as if she’s enjoying whatever she’s thinking about. When they come out of the crystal, the Kryptonians are touch-starved, so Alex and her team find herself beset with hugs and piggyback rides and full on bearholds all the time. Alura thinks Lucy is beautiful and it’s, like, the first thing she says to her when they meet. -- source link
