The Rare Cuban M1899 Remington Lee Rifle,While James Paris Lee is famous for the Lee-Enfield design, in the late 19th century he made several designs that utilized the Lee type action.  One was the M1899 Remington Lee rifle, a bolt action rifle chambered in .30-40 which utilized a five round single stack magazine.While the rifle failed to achieve notice with the American military and commercial market, many newly emerging nations needed arms for their military’s.  One was Cuba, which had recently become independent after the Spanish American War in 1898.  The Cuban government ordered 3,000 M1899 Remington Lee rifles and carbines, all marked with the Cuban national crest on the receiver.  Cuban models were all marked with the serial numbers 1-3000.While the M1899 Remington Lee failed to become a commercial success, it was the later Lee Metford and Lee Enfield design popular with the British that would make James Paris Lee famous. -- source link
