Unfortunately, the park’s vet could not get a pulse on the calf, and it was presumed dead. Gudrun had already been in labor for a while, and was having trouble trying to expel the calf. She was brought into the medical pool which was then drained to immobilize Gudrun. Staff put a cable into Gudrun’s vagina and hooked the cable around the flukes of the calf before it was manually winched out of Gudrun’s body. However, after the calf was removed, Gudrun began hemorrhaging severely and it took a while before she finally stopped bleeding. She remained stationary in one spot until she too died 4 days later on February 25, 1996. x | x | x | x -- source link
