It was written by Samuel ben Jacob in Cairo based on the manuscripts of Aaron ben Moses ben Asher. In the 1840s, Abraham Firkovich discovered the manuscript in a Karaite Genizah in Crimea and brought it first to Odessa and then to Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). -- source link
