We’re celebrating Miniature Monday with some superb owl illustrations from our collection! According to a blog post about this book written by Paul Hulsenboom, a cultural and literary historian working in the Netherlands, the title page of the work contains a series of puns about owls. The text below the image of the owl can be translated as “For sale in Owl City at Caesius (the “blue-grey”) Nyctimenius (“moonlit-night”) on Owl Street, under the sign of Władysław, King of Poland.”[1] Clearly, owl puns never go out of fashion, as evidenced by the misreading of “Super Bowl” as a celebration of amazing nocturnal birds of prey.
