I did it. I finally freaking did it. After 2 years, 6 months & several hours of planning, fantasising and construction I’ve finally completed the Vanian cake. Almond sponge cake soaked in kahlua espresso, layered with coffee buttercream & caramel ganache then glazed with dark chocolate & decorated with chocolate (new) roses. I wanted to continue the long tradition of chefs naming signature desserts after great performers & create a cake that encompassed Vanian’s personal tastes, personal style & aesthetic as well as the decadence & richness of his vocal stylings.This is my homage to him & to 40 years of the Damned.
