theblindninja: HAPPY WORLD KARATE DAY! On this day in 1936, senior masters in Okinawa held a meeting about the future of Karate. Originally, the art was known as ”Toudi” (唐手 lit. ”Chinese Hand”) and taught in secrecy. But now it was decided to popularize the art! The result was a name change, adopting the belts and titles of Judo, standardizing styles and implementing a competition format. If it wasn’t for this historical meeting, maybe Karate wouldn’t exist today! This is why Oct 25 is celebrated as World Karate Day. -- source link
