somethingglowing:turntables-goldcables:neil-gaiman:youaintpunk:sarajevomoja:talk about perspective. shit.Fucking hell.I remember the first time I saw a map of Africa to scale. My jaw dropped. And I’m wondering how a continent so big can be so conveniently left out of our world history text books. A class on Africa isn’t a requirement for Anthro majors at my school. YOU CAN HAVE A MAJOR ON THE STUDY OF HUMANS AND COMPLETELY LEAVE OUT THIS WHOLE ASS CONTINENT.Well goddamnAfrica has a lot of modern history, yet pretty much the only things we learn IN HIGH SCHOOL HERE IN SOUTH AFRICA is Apartheid (on a way too regular basis), the Rwandan genocide, and a bit of stuff about Africa as part of the spice trade. Some schools quickly breeze over the fact that there was an incredibly advanced, trading civilization around the mountain of Mapungubwe. That’s it, except I don’t know what the final year curriculum is. Maybe we do some stuff on the hundreds of things that have happened surrounding the people in this place that isn’t them getting shipped to The USA. -- source link
