cynic-optimist:So, I’ve got basically no one following me, but it might be helpful to people to know that these are FB comments left by Shaun Lyon, a man who purports to be one of the head runners of the Gallifrey One convention, on an article posted by a mutual friend. I’m a white cis-het dude who doesn’t live in California, so my not-going to the con is pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things. But maybe it would be good for people to reconsider whether they want to be associated with them, based on this guy’s words. Supposedly, he’s the person who wrote their sexual harassment policy - yikes. There was a lot more to this conversation than the above, and I will give him a small amount of credit for saying that assault and harassment are wrong and deserve consequence in the course of said conversation. That does NOT excuse calling some female cosplayers “cocktease”s and “naive”, saying they can’t “strut without consequences” and implying that they are contributing to the problem by doing so, and chalking a violating male gaze up to “nature”. You don’t get a free pass on all that bullshit for paying lip-service to people obeying the law. -- source link
