While the M1903 Springfiled was the standard issue rifle for US forces shortages of the weapon forced the US to adopt the Enfield chambered in .30-06 as an alternate standard. By the end of the war the Enfield outnumbered the Springfield in general issue. According to reports, some firsthand from my Grandfather and Great Uncles it was a damn accurate rifle. -- source link
