Thank you so much! :D Usually when I go about simplifying expressions, I like to start from drawing simple dot eyes and line based expressions before I make the expression more complex. This way I can figure out the base emotion of the expression, and then build upon it when I clean up the thumbnail drawing. In addition, keeping facial features simple will allow for the expression to read more clearly, as well as experimenting with line weight, such as making the pupil darker, and the eyelash a thicker line than the rest of the eye. I highly recommend doing expression studies, where you pause videos and draw different actors’ expressions, and try to simplify or exaggerate the expression vs. drawing the exact expression.
