gloriadawn:Gloria Dawn, photography by Ron Vogel. With this series of photos, Ron Vogel tried to do something different, for him. Instead of relying of diffused lighting, his usual modus operandi, he shot a series of photos using a single point of light, creating deep shadows on my face and body – sharp, distinct shadows with a sharp edge. Unfortunately, when printed on the courser magazine paper, these photos didn’t exhibit the same fine-edged contrast as the printed photo. Two small images from this series were published in Gala, Dec 1962; I have never seen any of the other photos in a magazine. The above photo is one of four that Ron took of me in bra and panties, leaning against a chair. All are nice photos, although this is my favorite because of the shadows on my face. It illustrates my face’s flaws and strengths – from my slightly off-kilter smile and crooked nose, to the near symmetry of the two halves, my dimple, wide lips, and very fine hair. (The hair is both a blessing and a curse, as I have great difficulty keeping it buoyant, especially as I don’t have a hairdresser by my side to work regularly on it.) As these photos were scanned from a negative, my face is sharp and detailed even though it occupies a very small portion of the negative. -- source link
