interretialia:ACASIJUNASTRENUUS ARCARIUSYuunaAkashiEnergetic ShooterTranslation Notes:Acasi Juna is simply the Japanese name Akashi Yuuna Latinized.  Juna is declined like any feminine name of Latin’s first declension: Juna, Junae.Let me make this clear right away: Yuuna’s card is the only card of this bunch that has genuine errors.  There is little that is salvageable here, I am afraid.  That is a pity because the Negima people have been doing so darn well with the Latin.As it stands, Strenuus Arcarius means “Energetic Treasurer.“  Strenuus, “energetic,” is masculine, but the feminine form is strenua.  Arcarius is also masculine, since the adjective is supposed to agree with it and it ends in -us.  It means “treasurer" or even “cashier.“  There is no way that this word means “shooter."  However, there is the adjective arcuarius (feminine arcuaria), “pertaining to a bow,” from arcus, “bow" (the kind from which you shoot arrows).  The masculine form was used in antiquity to refer to a maker of bows.  However, just as the gladiaria on Setsuna’s card can mean “swordsman,“ arcuaria can mean “one who uses a bow” or, figuratively, “one who shoots,“ “shooter."  This is not too far-fetched, in fact.  If one is not familiar with the Neo-Latin words sclopetator and sclopetatrix ("shooter”), arcuarius and arcuaria would probably come to mind instead.  Moreover, the Romans used Arcipotens as an epithet of the Greek god Apollo, who was also called Ἑκηβόλος, Ekebolos, meaning “far-shooting" (in reference to his skill with his bow and arrows).  At any rate, the point is clear: arcarius should be arcuaria, “shooter.“  I suppose it is possible to write arcuarius and arcuaria as arcarius and arcaria (as in how spiritualis, “spiritual,” can appear as spiritalis, without the u), but what is the point of deliberately changing an already-established word so that it is liable to be confused with another word or two (the arcarius and arcaria that mean “treasurer" or even “cashier")?Ergo, STRENUUS ARCARIUS should be STRENUA ARCUARIA.Card from here. -- source link
