tripleissue:pascalsky:Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord in WW1984“Do you see the truth?”It will forever make my heart ache watching this scene. The way he is made to face the past that he has tried so hard to run from. He probably thought the running was equivalent with healing, because in his own way it may have been. But he is forced to face it again and it wrecks me. But the part that makes my soul weep is the last cut. In which he seems so hopeful. He seemed so ready to have gotten through what he probably thought was going to be the hardest season in his life; growing. Growing through the life he had at home, and making it out. Growing through school and beginning his own life. But then, the world couldn’t let him have the break he worked so hard for. It was no longer his father coming down on him and trying to change him, it was now the society he had joined while trying so hard to escape those crushing restraints. Because look at him. This Maxwell had hope. He was excited. And he seemed to be comfortable in who he was. But when you see him again, (the version you see throughout most of the movie), he is having to pretend to be someone else. He is being forced into a mold once again. The tv personality. The realization that being himself wasn’t enough to to make it in the world he’d tried so hard to be a part of. Alright I’ll stop with my rant, and I’m sorry to have gone so lengthy with it. But I just have so many thoughts about this character. And I love him. -- source link
