One day, I picked one up and began observing it closely: Its gnarly bulb with grayish papery skin, the stalks shooting out like arteries in sprays of shocking purple and green, the deepest red flesh that bled pure magenta… It was at that moment the most intensely beautiful object ever, simultaneously rock-like, plant-like and organ-like. -- source link
