When you see a “diva” what are your first thoughts? There are multiple sides to a woman and not all
When you see a “diva” what are your first thoughts? There are multiple sides to a woman and not all of which line-up with the preconceived notions of what a diva is. Triple Consciousness invites you to recreate the narrative that you have created around what it means to be a diva especially as it pertains to black female identity. Ebony Noelle Golden has curated a very interesting long table discussion format where audience members will be able to participate in a larger discussion around black female identity. So step up to the table and work with us to build a new and more empowering conversation around what it means to be a diva in today’s society. Below you will find a curator’s statement connected to the “DIVA” conversation:Think of the long table as the kitchen table. That meeting place where many of us learned how to share our deepest feelings, our views of the world, how to debate, and trash talk all while learning how to cook a good meal, make a “book”, get our hair pressed, or write our first poem. Billed as a long table discussion, this engagement calls us back to the kitchen table to explore, expound upon, and explode current remixes of the “whore/Madonna” complex in all its iterations. We need to talk about these terms and ideas. We need to talk about “divas”, “bad bitches”, “bosses” and more. We need to dig into the origin of these identities and their current constructions. I’m most excited about those open chairs at the table that will no doubt be filled by girls and women that have much to say about who decides, who defines, and who determines what it means to be in our out of sync with what ever-evolving, hot button topic of the mythology of the diva. - Series Curator, Ebony Noelle GoldenJoin us after the discussion for a cash-bar reception featuring Haitian electronic music composer/percussionist/turntablist, Val Jeanty. She incorporates her African Haitian Musical traditions into the present and beyond, combining acoustics with electronics and the archaic with the post-modern.Unable to attend “Mythologies of the Diva?” Tune in on Livestream!Posted by Alicia BoonePhoto: Kwesi Abbensetts (abbensettsstudio) -- source link
