tanuki-kimono:2019 will be Inoshishi/boar year (ain’t this plush cute :P?). Lunar year will start on next February 5.Boars are associated with an early winter harvest festival called Inoko, which celebrates the 10th day of the 10th lunar month (around November in gregorian calender). For this celebration, special wagashi cakes are made (seen on and on). In the past, they were simple mochi cake dotted by azuki beans - mimicing a boar hide. Today, you can find cuter renditions depicting both boars and boarlets. Those wagashi can be used for Robiraki, the first tea ceremony of the winter season. There, practioners taste the tea harvested in Spring. November also marks time to move the hearth to a pit called ro, preparing for the arrival of colder days. -- source link
