Kathleen MacQueen, a participant in our edit-a-thon, has been contributing to Wikipedia since 2010.“Now,” she writes, “when I look something up on Wikipedia, I find myself logging in consistently to correct grammar, clarify meaning, and add factual content. I was pleased to hear about the Edit-a-thon because I thought I might re-focus my contribution once again to filling the gaps rather than just making corrections. Working with facilitators the day of the edit-a-thon, we came up with a plan that would make use of my knowledge of contemporary art.”Kathleen decided to focus her efforts on contemporary artists featured by the EASCFA’s Feminist Art Base. She began by comparing the list of FAB artists to Wikipedia entries, noting who has a page and who doesn’t, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the content. She wrote, “We were all shocked when at the end of an hour I had come up with major contemporary women artists who are inadequately represented on Wikipedia, such as Ida Applebroog, Eleanor Antin, and Ghada Amer! I’m not even through the A’s yet!”Posted by Alexandra Thom -- source link
