Welcome to #Inktober day 4, wherein I’ve already forgotten what day it is & messed up one of my drawings. 8’)Today’s my first nocturnal lemur feature, AND my first lemur from family Cheirogaleidae!Meet the Sibree’s Dwarf Lemur (Cheirogaleus sibreei)! These adorable little lemurs are listed as Critically Endangered – They ONLY occur at high elevations (between 1400m-1800m), which limits their habitat to only 2 forest ranges in all of Madagascar!Fact #4!:Having an elevation-requirement is unusual among lemurs, but even MORE unusual is the fact that Cheirogaleids are the only primates on Earth that hibernate – and the Sibree’s dwarf lemur, strangest of all, hibernates UNDERGROUND!!Other species of mouse and dwarf lemur are known to hibernate in trees, but these incredible primates actually bury themselves in the forest floor to hibernate during the island’s cold, dry season!!If you love lemurs (and, c'mon– who doesn’t??) and would like to help with their conservation, consider:1. Raise awareness!! Spread the word about how badly these guys need help!2. DRAW LEMURS!! Join us for #Hallowleem and the #WorldLemurFestival by drawing a lemur & sharing it online (along with information about how endangered they are!)3. DONATE! The Lemur Conservation Network is a great way to look up different organizations, so you can find the perfect one to donate to!HALLOWLEEM 2016!Days 1-3 – Day 4! – Day 5Art © Zahzu -- source link
