wovenwithwords:modern aesthetic mythology | persephone she swung her feet over the edge of the bed, the floor cool against her soles. her eyes darted about the floor, searching for her slippers and finding none in her view. she let out a sigh and stood, the thin sheet wrapping around her body as she walked into the next room where the water poured into the porcelain tub. she picked up a bottle, pulling off the stopper before tapping six drops into the water. the water became a milky white until she couldn’t see the bottom of the tub. her fingers tracked through the water, the heat seeping into her palm and up her wrist until it reached her neck. she stepped in and sunk down into it until her body was submerged as if she was still swathed in her mother’s womb, listening to the silent beat of the cocoon around her. seven days. it would only be seven days until she could visit her. her chest ached as she thought about her mother and the way she smelled like clove and nutmeg - like autumn. the taste of bath oil touched her tongue before she sat up, refraining from making a face. her head tipped back, laying against the edge before she turned and saw him come in, a mug in his hand steaming with the froth of heated milk and liquefied coffee beans. she murmured a thank you to him as he handed it to her. she took a sip of creamy drink as he sat down on the floor, his hand coming up to run through her hair, the strands that were damp at the ends tangled at his slow stroke. she felt him turn her toward him until his mouth was against hers. he tasted of smoke and smelled of coal and pine. she drank him in - drank him in the way artemis would drink in the moonlight, drunkenly and with excess. she touched his cheek, feeling the ring on her finger press into her skin as she brought him closer. she knew she was queen. -- source link
