Unlike many researchers at the time, Eldering and Kendrick did not use orphans or institutionalized children in their research, choosing instead to build networks with local health departments and welfare commissions to gather statistics on the prevalence of the disease.Loney Gordon was a lab technician who worked closely with Eldering and Kendrick.
