May 2016 - Fancy Walnut Tree recovery!Things were unusually warm this spring, causing all manner of plants to leaf out early - including this new and pricey walnut tree. Then we had several cold snaps (now we’ve been having unusually cold late night temps for May). It was hard on something as young as the tree, and for awhile we weren’t certain it would make it, but it has since put out new growth above the graft. Yay! It is just grafted on Black Walnut, of which we have plenty of, so we would’ve been rather sad to lose the scion. If all goes well and our grafting skills improve, eventually we’ll have quite a few english walnut trees around here.Under the walnut you’ll note a ton of tomatillos. They end up in our cold/vermicompost, and then end up in the garden. I swear tomatillos are the easiest edible plant to grow. Why they are not mentioned in every single permaculture / food forest text I’ll never know. Finally managed to get things semi-sorted out with etsy, so the shop is up and running. However I’ll note that since we’re heading into the summer months, we can’t guarantee that plants will survive shipping - we will still ship though if someone wants to try. Seeds and soil amendments should be fine though. -- source link
