Marie Taglioni dancing the title role in “La Sylphide,” 1832.La Sylphide, a romantic ballet, was created for Taglioni by her father Filippo Taglioni to showcase her talents. A young Scotsman is lured away from his bride by a sylph (fairy) on their wedding day. The two dally in a forest glade before the young man accidentally causes the sylph’s death. The ballet was first performed in the Salle Le Peletier in Paris on 12 March 1832. The ballet was a great success. -- source link
