radioactivesupersonic:@smolsarcasticraspberryokay but… shiro must have learned this in the arena right? look at how he uses the environment to his advantage he uses the barrel as a shield and a weapon he’s jumping off all sorts of objects and running up walls creative use of space and surroundings he must have learned this fighting in the arena i doubt he learned this in the garrison but in the arena he had to fight for his life and there were no rules he would’ve done whatever it took to survive this is how you fight when you’re smaller and weaker than all your opponents when you’re up against monsters and if you lose you die this is ‘fighting for your life’ combat it’s quick and dirty and efficient and rough and creative no rules no holds barred you fight or you die and shiro chose to live and that’s why he learned to fight like this reblogging smol’s tags because they’re really good, but also:What I think is very interesting about this is Shiro doesn’t engage his arm at any point here- and it reminds me about how, without a bayard, and without knowing about his arm’s cutting power, Shiro’s reply was “I guess I’ll just have to make do.”It seems like an odd comment that he wouldn’t look for some other kind of weapon on the castle but be okay going into a situation, with hostiles, armored but not armed- but looking at this gifset, it makes a lot more sense- Shiro fights like a survivalist and part of that is that he makes weapons for himself out of his environment. Rather than being specifically proficient with a single weapon we see that he seems to have pretty good familiarity with multiple weapons. In the flashback, we see he faced Myzax with a sword, and in s1e10 he criticizes Allura’s form on holding a blaster- revealing that he knows exactly how to hold a galra rifle. This is interesting, because the black bayard in Zarkon’s hands takes multiple forms- and because their shared element is the sky- which can be read as “air” (gases fill whatever container they are placed in, being thus amorphous) but also as void or space- in which case there is no form to grasp because said form is not there. I’ve had an idea that maybe Lance would have an adaptable bayard but I have to reconsider the idea that Shiro wouldn’t- because if this is how he fights, a weapon tailored just to him would absolutely be a hyper-adaptable one. -- source link
