Here’s something a little bit different, for those of you perverts who are also history enthusiasts. A clipping from Swedish men’s magazine called Piff, dated 1965. The column is called “The Slipper Heroes’ Corner”.The term in question, “toffel hjälte”, or “tohvelisankari” in Finnish, means “henpecked” in English. The term is not that commonly used anymore, since it’s not that big of a deal for Nordic men to do their fair share of the housework. When I was a child, however, it was commonly used in derogatory manner, to refer a husband who is considered to be “under the shoe” at home. The text in the article itself is pure male submission, female domination, FLR, whatever you want to call it. It describes the bliss of being in a marriage where the wife does all the decisions, and how much better life will be that way. From Finnish viewpoint the clipping is especially interesting. The thing is, after the WWII Finland was in much worse shape than Sweden, and apparently at some point we even got a sort of Marshall aid from Sweden, in the form of unsold men’s magazines. Finland was in many ways a less developed, more backwater country, and the things that took place in the big wide world happened someplace far, far away. This applies also to BDSM, and it took a long time for it to get any foothold over here. Even today the “lifestyle scene” around these parts is very small. In other words, it would have been basically impossible for a men’s magazine over here to have a column like that in mid 1960’s, bravely declaring the joyous message of Female Domination to its readers. -- source link
