what-the-floofin: Oh my god do I try. For all the asks about paladin armour in the taur universe. Featuring Allura as our model bc I need to give that girl more love. It’s a concept I’ve been chipping away at on and off for a long time, and I think has finally settled somewhere decently acceptable. At least, not too badly for a completely-winging-this-oh-god form. Still quite liable for change! The core ideal was to maintain movement and flexibility at all times, and protect where I can without hindering that. Most horse armour concepts fall short in helpful design aids, because they’re.. well, they’re for horses yes, but particularly for the way horses want to move – which is upright, primarily forward moving and balanced at all times. Centaurs would push those limits a lot more because there is less natural fear. They’d use a lot more flex, twist and fold etc. with a greater comprehension of their physical limitations, which I felt very compelled to giving core focus towards. And when you’re a paladin doing paladin things, you need as much motion range as possible. It’s no good if your natural tendencies are restricted. The black undersuit is what does bulk of the work for protection against the perils of space vacuum death. (things like the open hooves there are completed via the leg guards). It’s very durable, as proven in show, and the white armour even more so. It throws over back like a rug and fullseals on the underside. At this design pass, the upper body suit is attached. So - throw the longer side over back, wiggle into the upper body in a pull over head deal, and work your way down. I kind of feel like, once the inner leg sides are done (which in all likelihood may take an extra pair of hands - see: taurs out of necessity being more social reliant) the center seam could kick off on its own? Magnetic snapping like. Or be set to do so with that little under belly arrow there. One of many ideas still up to debate and further creativity. Also, these would very much have to be designed specific to the taur. Obviously. It’s probably got some business like the ironman-made spidey-suit slack to form fitting happening as well. Fun technology solves all our problems. - One concept I have not worked on fitting in at all yet: jet aids. If anything, they may be strictly limited to micro-gravity control in my opinion. May potentially involve a like.. pseudo girth concept to have it even secured enough to a big ol body. I don’t know, clothes design is my weak point and mechanical design is my worst. -- source link
