Ben Venue - Trossachs National ParkWhen we pulled up by the side of Loch Venachar, we didn’t know that the mountain we could see in the distance was the very mountain we would soon spend hours going up. The plan was to go for a short walk up an easy, small mountain called ‘Ben A'an’, which promised a great view across Loch Katrine. We didn’t quite anticipate just how many other people had the very same idea. The car park was full and people were piling into the sides of the road, as they tend to do here in Scotland when the parking spaces run out. I knew there was another car park nearby: the start of a much longer mountain walk, up a mountain called 'Ben Venue’, which is (at 729 meters) about twice the size of Ben A'an. We managed to squeeze our small car into a space and since we were here, we made the impromptu change of plans to go up Ben Venue instead. It’s a 8.75 mile long walk (roughly 14 kilometers), which took us about 5 hours to complete, keeping in mind frequent photo stops and the short-cut we took on the way back. It’s definitely an advanced walk, as there is some rock climbing involved, but nothing that would require climbing gear. The more challenging aspect was to find our way through the boggy parts of the path without getting our feet wet. Waterproof boots are a must at this time of year. Once we finally arrived on top, we had a beautiful view across the lochs of the area: Loch Venachar, Loch Achray and Loch Katrine, all surrounded by Autumn colours. To see the entirety of Loch Katrine, we had to go up another peak of the mountain. At the end we were dead tired, but it was certainly worth it.Watch the travel vlog here. -- source link
