Day 16 of 31 days of my favorite scary movies is the 1988 remake of The Blob. Now I’ll be the first to admit that this film can be a little goofy and is almost painfully 80s, but it remains a lot of fun with some genuine scares and a number of really good special effects. The film stars Kevin Dillon (more recently of Entourage fame) and Shawnee Smith (familiar to many horror fans through the Saw films) as teenagers dealing with the danger of the eponymous creature threatening to devour their hometown. Neither of the leads had really come into their own acting wise, and there is a lot of trying to hard, but there is a solid supporting cast. The real cincher on this movie though is the Blob itself. The terror of a creature that feeds, grows and digests its victims alive is on display in a way that hadn’t really been managed before. There are some wonderfully intense death scenes on display here. Points also to the filmmakers for the open ending. -- source link
