fearoftheminotaur:tigerinknight:ameliarating:The reason many people are rightly worried about Bernie refusing to say how much money his plan costs is not because they’d be unwilling to support an expensive plan, but because it just looks bad to keep the information from the people. Upfrontness is just good. Either he knows and thinks we shoudn’t be privy to how much things cost (and that’s bad policy) or he just doesn’t know and doesn’t actually have the plan he claims to (and that’s no policy). It’s actually quite fair to demand that information and fair to be suspicious of him when he withholds it.As for keeping troops in Iraq, we actually know how much that costs because we’re paying for it now, so that’s not some mystery people are asking to know more about. If we can’t afford his “expensive plan” why even consider it?Here you gohttps://www.sanders.senate.gov/download/options-to-finance-medicare-for-all?inline=fileBtw @ameliarating the reason why the price tag on the war is relevant, is because Sanders is adamantly against going to war and paying that. So that’s an immediate savings.https://www.sanders.senate.gov/download/options-to-finance-medicare-for-all?inline=file@fearoftheminotaurThe link you posted explains how we would pay for it, not how much it would ultimately cost. As for keeping troops in Iraq, we already know how much it costs, which is why it’s not a question anyone was asking him.People want to know how much Medicare For All costs. I do too and I support it. It’s perfectly reasonable to want to know the number and it’s strange that he doesn’t want to give it.My guesses are eithera) he knows how much it would cost and he’s afraid the high amount will scare people away orb) he doesn’t actually know how much it would cost yetthe first reason is deeply problematic because it sets a closed-door precedent (or, more accurately, continues a closed-door precedent) in which the the executive branch and people aiming for the executive branch don’t believe the people are entitled to their information. And the second is problematic because, well, it means he doesn’t actually have an implementable plan.I hope it’s reason (a) and he just shares the number already. -- source link
