domistella-cursor:martius, -a, -um : of March / Mars + panis, -is : breadCreditFons ImaginisBene!Panis has two genitive plural forms: panium and panum. The expected one is panium because panis is an i-stem. (I do not understand Verrius Flaccus’ reasoning for prescribing the panum form. There also exists the idea that neither panium nor panum is valid because panis is a mass noun. That idea is not particularly convincing, though, because the plural forms of mass nouns may denote particular objects or different kinds of a thing.)At any rate, here is the Greek paradigm:Ἄρειος, -α, -ον : of Mars / Ares + ἄρτος, -ου : bread -- source link
