“We went to the new Mosque in Cambridge last night, I had heard good things about it so was keen to go. And we weren’t disappointed! Stunning wood design, a fantastic new landmark in historic Cambridge that will stand the test of time. The attention to detail is what grabbed me the most. Well thought through and different to others I’ve seen. From a woman’s perspective it is unique. As I hope you can see from these photos, the prayer hall is one space. There is a wooden screen in the middle which is low enough to see over. At each end it goes higher for those who prefer that. Upstairs there is a balcony with half glass for those who prefer that and downstairs a soundproof room for children to go in with windows to feel part of what is going on. The wudu areas are stunning, there are coat hangers (unusual!) , an Islamic garden at the entrance and the neatest Quran shelves I have ever seen! And as we came out and bumped into people we knew, we could chat freely without being accused of too much ‘free mixing’ yay! All in all a great place to look at and be part of. I pray it brings many more years of blessing and joy to all the people of Cambridge, not just Muslims ” - Julie Siddiqi in Cambridge, UKNote by Nadia Takolia: “There was a full consultation with Muslim women in Cambridge about what they wanted from the mosque including with regards to partitions etc. Of course they had every wish under the sun from no partition to full partition! They have tried to fulfill this in the best way possible and accommodate as many people as possible. You can’t tell from Julie’s photo but there is a break in the middle of the partition where there is no barrier between the men’s and women’s ‘sides’. I hope that the masjid will inspire other Muslim communities around the UK to be creative in how we design our houses of worship Insha Allah :)” -- source link
