“This is our beautiful neighborhood mosque. Listening to the Adan, or call to prayer, is amazing. I missed it so much. However, I can’t deny my disappointment when I compared the grandiose men’s entrance to the very small women’s entrance. I started getting visibly angry. An older man saw me and asked if he wanted to open the door for me to go and see. He was warm and kind. I said yes and went inside. To get to the women’s section, you have to go up a flight of stairs. This will make it very difficult for older-women or women with a physical disability to pray here. Unlike what I initially presumed, it was very clean, airy and had two flat TV screens so you can see the imam. Yes, it’s not perfect and we still have a long road ahead of us. But, this man’s kindness and openness to open the door to a closed mosque even though I had no scarf made me see things with a different perspective. Also, to not judge so quickly. Yes, it’s not perfect but I feel more hopeful.” - Dr. Houda Abadi, in Casablanca, Morocco -- source link
