In Cuenca we staid at the hotel Plaza. As you know from my last post, at first we did not like at all the location in between of all those ugly brown buildings and we thought we’d stay only that one night and change to another hotel for the second night. But then the woman at the reception was so very nice and helpful, the simple room was clean, big enough and ok, so that we staid both nights. The hotel looks like if it once has been one big hall and then they built many rooms in it. The walls are paper thin, which was not a problem for us but obviously puzzled one of the neighbours. In the middle of our maybe not really quiet games we suddenly noted that someone was sitting in front of our window looking in. (The window goes to the roof of a garage, and all the other hotel windows, too. It’s easy to get out of the window and walk safely to the others. Our neighbour obviously could not resist the temptation to take a closer look on what was going on in our room). That was a bit weird, and even a bit scary that, after we closed down the roller blind, somebody jiggled the door handle… But an hour later we heard him snore…Besides of this, the hotel was really nice. And very cheap. One could have coffee and toast in the morning in the bar just at the hotel door, and what was really exceptional was the kindness of the receptionist. She explained us in detail where to walk to see the best of Cuenca. Thanks to her we did the tour the contrary way to the “normal tourist”. Instead of climbing up the old towns streets we began in the back and could then easily walk down, while the other tourists were climbing up and came across us sweating and out of breath. -- source link
